CRICKET legends came to Penarth last week to take part in a charity Golf challenge.

Sir Ian Botham and Shane Warne arrived at Glamorganshire Golf Club on Lavernock Road on Thursday, July 21 to play one hole to raise money for Sir Ian's charity, The Beefy foundation.

They played the club's 18th hole which was represented the 14th hole on their tour of each of the cricketing counties, having started out in Durham at 6am before going on to finish in Lancashire at 9.45pm.

On arrival, they were greeted by a host of club members and supporters.

The club raised £500 for the event’s charity with proceeds from a members’ competition in the morning and also a collection in the evening.

The Glamorganshire’s general manager, Russell Thomas, who presented the cheque to the pair, explained that the club was delighted to be part of such a prestigious event.

He said: "It is an honour to have been chosen by the foundation.

"They played at some famous clubs including Wentworth and the Belfry so we are in some illustrious company.

"The members really shone through and the course looked magnificent so Sir Ian and Shane were extremely grateful."
