A PENARTH rugby player is to host a charity tournament for The Cystic Fibrosis Trust this weekend.

Harry Roberts, who plays for Penarth RFC, decided to put on the touch rugby festival this Sunday (July 31), in honour of the support it has given one of his close friends.

Mr Roberts said he is always looking for ways to raise money for the charity.

Mr Roberts ran the Wales Full Marathon in Tenby and raised £1000 for the charity.

And, from a fundraising night hosted by Penarth RFC just before Christmas he managed to raised a further £1200.

Mr Roberts hopes to continue to raise as much money as possible for the charity.

"I had been thinking about doing another fundraising event and the idea of a touch rugby came to mind," he said.

"It is a mixed event and we hope it appeals to everyone. Everyone knows each other in Penarth so we hoped that people would tell their friends about it."

Old Penarthians RFC and the Vale council have allowed him to use the Cwrt-y-Vil sports ground free of charge for the event.

He added: "I hope it is a nice and sunny day and that as many people come along as possible. I really hope it doesn't rain."

It is £50 to enter a team.

So far 16 teams hae signed up, with £800 raised already.

Mr Roberts has booked a DJ for the event and there will be a barbecue.

The event starts at 12.30pm and ends at around 5.30pm at Old Penarthians RFC.

Mr Roberts is keen on expanding the event next year because of the high demand.

He is also still looking for local companies to come forward with donations for raffle prizes.
