BROTHERS from Penarth are set to run 540 miles in 10 days through the blistering heat of Death Valley, in a gruelling charity challenge.

Scott and Rhys Jenkins have headed the USA to compete in the 135 mile Death Valley challenge which they plan on running four times in temperatures that often exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

They take on this challenge fresh from their recent Iceland Challenge run which saw them and two friends run 260 miles through treacherous conditions in aid of Cancer Research UK and the Kidney Foundation.

Last year, Scott suffered an injury during the race but still managed to complete the single version of the challenge with Rhys achieving a new record.

They became the first siblings to complete the Death Valley single with Rhys becoming the fastest British male to complete the double.

This year they will be raising money for Cancer Research UK in memory of Scott's girlfriend's mum. It was the charity she chose before she died last year when they asked her what they should run for. The boys' uncle also suffered from the disease.

Scott's girlfriend Abby Fleming said: "I am always extremely proud of both Scott and Rhys.

"They continue to push themselves both physically and mentally to help others.

"They told my mum they were going back to Death Valley and asked her what charity she wanted them to run for and without hesitation she replied with - Cancer Research to help find a cure."

If they complete the challenge they will be the first British people to do so, and among just a handful of people who have ever completed that distance in Death Valley.

Their other exploits have included a Boston to Austin run and a cycle from Turin to Cardiff.
