A HOUSING association serving the Vale of Glamorgan has been recognised for the digital support it provides to its tenants.

Newydd Housing Association has been awarded Digital Charter accreditation in recognition of its digital inclusion programme.

The scheme aims to help people, throughout the Vale, improve their IT skills and get online.

It is run in partnership with The Vale of Glamorgan Council, Barry Communities First, Hafod Housing Association and Wales and West Housing Association.

Sessions are provided by 'digital champions', who volunteer their time to help support people with a range of activities.

Activities involve basic computing, online shopping and Universal Credit assistance.

Digital champions help participants improve the skills they want to improve.

Newydd community regeneration officer Scott Tandy said: β€œIt’s great that the digital programme has been recognised for its digital inclusion work. The digital champions who volunteer their time to help local communities get online are valuable to the project and without them it would be impossible to run these sessions.”

Drop in sessions take place at Dinas Powys Library, on Mondays, from 10am to 1pm, and Penarth Library, on Fridays, from 10am to 1pm.
