Extracts from the Penarth Times of August 19, 1966:

After a near disastrous start when Saturday's Holiday Week programme was blown to pieces by a force-eight gale, the weather turned about-face and Sunday's sun, and held-over attractions from Saturday, brought people streaming into Penarth.

So much so that a police radio flash was sent out to the mobile squads that Penarth had reached 'saturation' points for cars.

More than 200 young people crowded the floor of the Paget Rooms at the Teenage Dance on Tuesday night, and the organisers we're delighted with its success.

The British Empire Cancer Campaign will benefit from the efforts of the Penarth branch of the British Amateur Electronics Club.

They are giving raffle tickets as prizes and also selling them for this worthy cause at their Electronic Shooting Gallery at the shelter on the Esplanade.

Older and more experienced competitors were completely eclipsed by two Penarth Yacht Club cadets who put up magnificent sailing performances to take first and second places in the new Mirror Class event in the club's Regatta on Sunday.

One hundred and eighty two people attended the recent blood donor session at Christchurch, Penarth, of whom 165 gave a donation.

Among arrangements being made of the official opening of the Severn Bridge on Thursday, September 8, by Her Majesty the Queen is the provision of accommodation for members of the public to witness the ceremony at Newhouse roundabout, Monmouthshire, at noon.

Penarth Air Training Corps continued their week's camp at Royal Air Force Thorney Island on Wednesday, August 3 by spending the day at a nearby famous RAF station.

Penarth were crushed last Saturday when they entertained the strong Usk side. Winning the toss, skipper Grove elected to bat in conditions far from conducive to cricket.

Penarth Darts League's new season will start on Friday, October 7, but all teams must be entered by 9pm on Tuesday, September 14. The league headquarters is the Cefn Mably Hotel and the monthly meetings will be held on the second Tuesday of the month.
