A PENARTH student has been recognised for his work and dedication at a ceremony honouring adult learners.

Spencer Penn, 44, who attends Cardiff and Vale College, was presented with an award by Vale AM Jane Hutt and deputy mayor, councillor Eddie Egan, at the Vale Inspire Awards 2016.

Mr Penn returned to education following a motorbike accident that required two years of rehabilitation.

He began re-learning with a foundation degree in ceramics to develop and combat the depression he had as a result of his accident.

Along with winning the Progression to Higher Education Award at the ceremony, Mr Penn’s work also bagged him the Cowbridge Award for Students in 2015 afterbited his work in the Pierhead Building and at the Makers Guild in Wales.

Following his foundation degree, Mr Penn moved to Cardiff Met to study for a full degree.

Mr Penn was awarded at the Vale Inspire Awards 2016, organised by the Vale Learning Network, which was held at the college’s Glamorgan Suite restaurant.
