A PENARTH woman and friends have raised over £3500 through a charity haircut.

Liz Foat, 26, of Wordsworth Avenue, plans to have her hair cut for Little Princess Trust charity this weekend.

The original target was £700, which would have made two wigs for children suffering with hair loss from cancer treatment, but Miss Foat and friends have managed to raise £3,575

Miss Foat said she was "thrilled" with the raised money.

"The money will go a long way," said Miss Foat. "It was about two years ago when I felt I needed to do more so I, alongside some university friends, decided to have our hair cut for charity.

"I've always donated blood but felt more could be done for charity."

The Swansea university graduate, who will take up a post at a Bristol children's hospital in October, said she has known of many children suffering with cancer which was another reason for her recent decision to have her hair cut.

She said: "I graduated in child nursing and have come across cancer-stricken children - with most having lost their hair.

"When my friends and I have our hair cut to bob level we know it'll be helping many, many children."

The event will be held at Old Penarthians Rugby Club, Saturday, August 27 at 2pm to 7pm.

A raffle will be held on Saturday, with prizes ranging from tickets for Penarth Pier cinema to an afternoon tea at Holm House.
