THE DISTINGUISHED Gentlemen's Ride is set to finish on Penarth seafront this year.

The worldwide motorcycle event sees its Cardiff leg take place on Sunday, September 25.

Last year's event was the first in the Cardiff area and took in Penarth en route.

Scores of bikers will make their way through the streets on motorcycles old and new dressed in gentlemanly attire.

But in 2016, Penarth will be the final destination as The Esplanade is closed for the event which aims to raise money for prostate cancer research.

It was founded in Sydney, Australia in 2012 and now nearly 80 countries and 400 cities take part.

Penarth resident Russell Dobbins is helping to organise the event and hopes that it will attract even more people than it did last year and raise twice the amount of money.

Last year the Cardiff ride raised £7,000 and organisers hope to raise £14,000 this year through collections to help with prostate cancer research and raise awareness amongst men.

He said: "Last year we had about 110-120 riders but this year we are hoping for 200.

"Last year was fantastic but we have also learnt lessons from it and made a few changes.

"We want to let people know this is happening and get as many people down as possible.

"Penarth is a fantastic backdrop for the end of the ride."

The ride will start at around 10.30am in Cardiff and arrive in Penarth at 12.30pm

Mr Dobbins added he hopes the weather stays dry after the "glorious" sunshine of last year.

There will be a live band on the day and James Sommerin is setting up a pop-up restaurant.
