A MOTOR racing legend recently visited Penarth to speak about his new book.

Damon Hill visited Glamorganshire Golf Club for the event which was organised by Griffin Books on Monday, September 12.

He spoke about his life and career in Formula One and took questions from the audience of around 90 people.

His book, Watching the Wheels, was released in the last few days, 20 years after he followed in his father's (Graham Hill) footsteps and won the world championship.

Mr Hill, who was visiting Penarth for the first time, said the book was not a sports book as such but about his life as a whole, although he feels there is enough in there to keep the motor racing fan happy.

Speaking about how he got into Formula One, he said that it was never really his main passion.

He said: "I was more into motorcycle racing but I do love driving and I can't ignore the influence of my father."

Speaking about how he thinks the sport has changed, Mr Hill said: "The world has changed. It's now all about social media.

"It used to be all about personality but now drivers are more managed."

He also met children from Albert Primary School who recently won the research and development award at the national finals of Jaguar's F1 in Schools initiative in Coventry for their model design of a car.

Those who managed to get tickets enjoyed a two course lunch, tea and coffee and got a signed copy of the book which are available at Griffin Books for anyone who missed the event.
