SULLY Centurions Cricket Club’s most faithful member has never played a game for the club but has played a crucial part.

Suzie Sylvester, who has been the head tea lady at the club for 50 years, has now decided to hang up her apron and retire.

Without Mrs Sylvester, the cricket club would have found it difficult to play - in the time she has been involved she has buttered thousands of slices of bread, cooked as many eggs and prepared all the other things that go with traditional cricket teas over the years – for the first, second, third and Sunday friendly teams.

She even transported the food from Sully to Wenvoe when the 3rd XI were playing home matches there.

There is no doubt that she has played a very big part in the history of Sully Centurions and has seen the ups and downs of the club, which started in 1955 as street side – founding members included Mrs Sylvester's future brother-in-law, Terry Sylvester, along with Stacey Mayne and Howard Hellyar.

In her time the club has climbed to great heights and has also seen some low points, but in the past couple of years she has stood by the club as it has undergone something of a revamp, with plenty of young players from the area, including the village of Sully itself.

It is hoped that, although she wishes to retire, the club can persuade her to help bring more volunteers to the kitchen to continue the great work.

Everyone at the club wishes to thank Mrs Sylvester for the her dedicated 50 years.
