A BUSINESS owner with three shops in Penarth has backed our campaign to support Penarth's high streets.

Cathy Evans, 65, said she feels Penarth town shops offer "a lot for everyone to enjoy", and "definitely supports" our Your High Street: Use It or Lose It campaign - aiming to encourage more people at independent businesses.

Ms Evans owns Stanwell Road businesses Gingers, a fashion store, and Bojangles, a gift shop, and, recently opened Gifts @ No.9 on Windsor Road.

Her latest venture sells a range of items, including candles and cups, with many of its products originating from independent suppliers.

Ms Evans said: "The reason I have the shops in Penarth is because I want people to make the most out of the high street, and town as a whole, which offers a tremendous amount of variety - from the arcade to the pier.

"There are many reasons for people to come here and visit us."

Like other traders, the former airline manager said she felt a lack of car parking spaces is the biggest issue facing shop owners..

"There are areas to park your car," she added. "But it's where to find those places which can prove difficult.

"This is the single biggest issue facing Penarth."

Ms Evans also highlighted the "unique roles" high street shops offer customers as a reason for people to continue to support them.

"You tend to feel that customers become friends," she said.

"We offer great service and, most importantly, give people the time they deserve.

"You'll hardly see an empty shop which shows the level of community spirit in Penarth.

"People just need to make use of it all."

Whether you are a shopper, a trader, or anyone with an interest in conserving our high street scene, we want to hear from you.
