PUPILS at a Penarth primary school have raised more than £700 for the RNLI's new boat appeal.

Children at Evenlode Primary School dressed up in blue, white and orange for the appeal on Thursday, October 20.

Two of the lifeboat crew, Stuart Jones and Rod Hill, who are also dads at the school, came in to talk to the pupils in assembly about the role of the RNLI and the pupils raised a total of £728.

The fundraiser was hailed a "great success" and two of the school's staff members dressed up in full lifeboat kit.

A spokeswoman for the school said: "Evenlode was really happy to join in with the lifeboat appeal because over the years we have developed a close relationship with the service, recognising the invaluable work they do within our community.

"Many of our pupils have enjoyed visits to the station to learn about their work and to talk to the crew.

"Several have family members and friends who volunteer for the service and therefore appreciate their role in keeping us safe.

"The whole school responded brilliantly to the appeal."
