A BUSINESS from Penarth has won the best advertising campaign at a Welsh marketing awards.

Advertising agency The Media Angel won the award at this year’s Chartered Institute of Marketing Wales/Cymru Awards 2016, held at Portland House in Cardiff Bay on November 23 and is the second year running in which they have picked up an award.

The company based at Avon House on Stanwell Road set up an advertising campaign for their client The National Botanic Garden of Wales which was designed to help increase visitor numbers and promote new attractions including The Butterfly House/Plas Pilipala.

Due to restricted funds, National Botanic Garden of Wales had not advertised since 2008 but the family focused campaign which ran throughout the summer and included video, radio, online and outdoor marketing increased family visits by 63 per cent.

David Hardy, head of marketing and communications for National Botanic Garden of Wales said: "We are delighted to have won best advertising campaign for our Butterfly House with The Media Angel who did a fantastic job.

"We are still reaping the benefits of their excellent work today."

The Wales Marketing Awards aim to highlight industry excellence and celebrate the achievements of marketing professionals in Wales.

The award for best advertising campaign was looking for a campaign that used striking creativity and strategic planning to reach and engage a family audience.

The channels used and results delivered by The Media Angel against the campaign objectives impressed the judges.

On winning the accolade, Alison Debono, director of The Media Angel said: "We are delighted to have won best advertising campaign for our work with The National Botanic Garden of Wales.

"We were up against strong competition from The Principality Stadium and Cardiff and Vale College, so winning the award means so much to us.

"We increased family visits to the garden by 63 per cent across the summer which highlights that great results and a good return on investment are achievable with limited budgets, creativity and by selecting the most appropriate media mix to deliver campaign objectives," she said.

Other Welsh brands who won awards on the evening included Welsh Water, Cadw, Braces Bread, National Trust, Legal & General, Tenovus Cancer Care, and Peter's Food Service with finalists ACT Training and Public Health Wales both up for several awards.
