A WAR hero from Llandough has received France's highest honour.
Dennis Stevens recently received the Legion D'honneur medal for the part he played in the liberation of France during The Second World War.
Mr Stevens was 19 years old and a flight sergeant rear gunner with RAF squadron 570 who were involved in operations before, during and after D-Day.
In September 1944, his plane was shot down at the Battle of Arnhem and he was captured by the SS and became a prisoner of war in Eastern Germany.
Mr Stevens is now 92 and said he was "surprised and delighted" to be honoured with this medal and the he was "just doing his duty."
His daughter Jill von Wittkamp said: "He risked his life for his country and without his contribution to the war effort my family and I would not be here.
"We owe him a lot."
