The Royal Buildings will get Christmas lights after all. The council on Monday reversed its previous decision not to spend an extra £200 to extend the Christmas lighting beyond Windsor Road, in the town centre.

When Father Christmas comes to Penarth next Saturday, December 17, he will receive gifts from townschildren which will later be distributed to children less fortunate than themselves.

With the leaders of the first and second division, Ex-Service A and B teams without games last Friday, their nearest challengers took advantage of the opportunity to narrow the gap at the top of the Penarth Darts League table.

Labour A lead the first division of the Penarth Skittles League with16 points from nine games, with Barley Brights just one point behind. Llandough Legion top the second division with 12 points, but Social B are only a point behind with two games in hand.

The struggle for league leadership at the Cardiff Indoor Stadium intensified even more last week with Llandaff's defeat of Cardiff Athletic. Unbeaten Roath maintain the number one position, but face a stern challenge from Penarth on Friday.

A recent challenge to a Yard-of-ale contest issued by the Old Penarthians team was taken up in Wednesday evening by Grange Stars, and after a man-against-man creditable struggle the score stood at two wins each.
