DONATIONS of food have been delivered to those in need for the Christmas season.

On Sunday, December 11, 100 parcels of festive food were delivered through the Santa Claus Benevolent Fund which is run by Penarth Town Council.

Applications for the parcels are received via partner organisations during the month of November.

Many people, including older residents living alone and families experiencing poverty, apply to receive a parcel of food that will help to make Christmas a little brighter.

Every year since the 1930s, Penarth Town Council has co-ordinated the delivery of Christmas food parcels to older people and families in need through its charity, the Santa Clause Benevolent Fund.

The scheme is carried out with the help of Penarth Round Table.

Donations to the Santa Clause Benevolent Fund are accepted throughout the year and collections are made at the summer and Christmas festivals.

Those wishing to support the cause can do so through Co-Op membership by logging on to an account and selecting Santa Clause Benevolent Fund.

One per cent of the amount donors spend at Co-Op throughout the year will go directly to those in need.

Other organisations throughout the town, including Tabernacle Baptist Church, also collect food for those in need.
