THE Vale of Glamorgan Council will receive a funding boost to help increase the amount of waste it recycles.

The council will get £75,000 of Welsh Government funding to invest in new technologies to update their recycling methods, increase recycling rates and improve value for money.

In total eight Local Authorities in Wales will receive funding through the Collaborative Change Programme.

The news comes after Wales was announced as the third best recycling nation in the world behind Germany and Taiwan.

Latest quarterly statistics published in February show that Wales continues to lead the way in the UK when it comes to recycling.

Figures for the 12 months ending September 2016 show the average combined reuse, recycling and composting rate across Wales’ 22 Local Authorities was 62 per cent, an increase of four percentage points on the same reporting period from the previous year.

For the same period in the Vale the total was 64 per cent.

Wales as a whole is now recycling double the amount it did a decade ago and continues to be used as an example of good practice for other UK nations.
