A NEW children's book was launched in Penarth during a fairy-themed tea party.

Hosted by the book's author, Laura Sheldon, children were treated to a reading of Sophie Finds a Fairy Door in Griffin Books, as well as taking part in a wand-making workshop and a fairy door finding trail through the town.

Firefly Press and Penarth company Fairydoorz launched the book, which is the first in the Adventures through the Fairy Door series and features Fairydoorz’s bestselling Buttercup Fairy Door.

It is illustrated in colour throughout by children’s illustrator Erica Jane Waters.

Other titles planned will feature Fairydoorz products The Santa Door and The Pirate Adventure Door and all titles will include a sprinkle of glitter and cut-out keepsakes.

The books are designed to promote the Fairydoorz products of wooden fairy doors and will be sold as stand-alone titles as well as packaged with the bestselling doors from Fairydoorz.

Philippa Edmunds, managing director of Fairydoorz said: "I am very excited about our first book that brings a new element of wonder to add to our fairy door product range.

"We have produced the perfect mix of beautifully illustrated characters and flowing text to capture children’s imagination.

"Our starting story sets the scene for a whole number of adventures that will complement the stages in a child’s journey as they grow; bringing magic and fun to story times."

There are also plans to produce the titles in Welsh.

Adventures through the Fairy Door: Sophie Finds a Fairy Door is licensed by Fairydoorz and retails at £6.99 and is available from all good book and gift shops and online at fireflypress.co.uk and fairydoorz.co.uk
