FOOD businesses from Penarth have made the finals of Food Awards Wales.

Restaurant James Sommerin, Compass Coffee, Hamptons, Manor House Hotel and ETC have all been shortlisted in the third edition of the annual awards.

The awards aim to recognise the hard work and efforts of the Welsh food industry.

Nominees include restaurants, takeaways, gastro pubs, hotel restaurants, cafes and bistros and there is also a focus on the local producers who supply their ingredients.

Restaurant James Sommerin based on The Esplanade has been shortlisted for fine dining restaurant of the year with Mr Sommerin up for chef of the year.

The black tie ceremony will be hosted by Capital FM's breakfast presenter, Polly James and will take place at The Marriot Hotel in Cardiff on April 10 when a total of 29 awards will be presented.

As well as the awards, the event will also help raise funds for the official charity partner, Make A Wish Foundation UK which grants wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening conditions.

Irfan Younis of event organisers Creative Oceanic said: "The tremendous amount of nominations received from the Welsh public, is a testament to the hard work of all those working within the food sector.

"With fierce competition this year, we are looking forward to welcoming those who provide and supply us with gastronomic delights.

"Last year’s winners were great ambassadors and I am confident this year’s finalists and winners will follow in their footsteps.

"We would like to wish all the finalists the best of luck."
