PENARTH and District Ramblers exciting new six month programme for spring and summer is now in print, containing a variety of different length and graded walks from 20 miles down to three miles.

Commencing from April there will be local walks at Ewenny, Llantwit Major, Marcross and starting from May, Thursday evening walks taking in Dinas Powys, Highlight, Cosmeston, Aberthaw, Porthkerry, Lavernock and the newly created Dambusters 617 trail in Penarth, just to name a few.

A variety of longer walks will visit places such as Caerphilly, Penhow, the upper Neath Valley, the Black Mountains, Pontneddfechan waterfalls, Dare Valley, Central Beacons, Wye Valley, Rhossili, both south and north Gower, Pontypridd, Garwnant, Blaenavon, Llandegfedd, Tidenham, Carmarthen, the Quantock Hills, Alderley on the edge of the Cotswolds, Garw Valley, Darran Valley, Cwm Clydach and the Trothy Valley.

Mid-week in June will herald the return of the annual long distance Three Castles Walk and there are a series of walks utilising public transport.

During the Vale of Glamorgan Walking Festival in May our footpath officer will be leading a linear walk along the coast from Rhoose Railway Station to Llantwit Major with a return by train.

There are also three more linear train journeys planned with an exploration of the Rhondda valley in the Treherbert area, from Bath to Bristol and Abergavenny to Pontypool.

Using the bus service, two linear walks from Llanfihangel Crucorney to Abergavenny and Monmouth through the spectacular Wye Valley to Chepstow, should be very interesting.

Then to round it all off there is even a mystery walk in the north Cardiff area, so let’s hope the leaders will know where they are going.

Hopefully there is something of interest to everyone and all we need now is some good weather, so we look forward to welcoming you on one or more of the treats that are in store in the coming months.

Please note that because of continuing building works at Y Rhodfa in front of Morrisons on the Barry Waterfront, the Barry-based meeting place has changed and we will now meet at Barry Dock Railway Station car park, which is accessed from the Docks Office car park adjacent to Ffordd Mileniwm in Barry (Grid Ref ST122676 and for Sat Nav users the post code is CF63 4RT).

This however is not applicable to Walk ’n’ Clear so if you intend taking part please ring Joy on 01446 737131.

On April 1, meet 9.30am at Barry Dock Railway Station car park for an eight-mile moderate walk taking in Castle-upon-Alun and Ewenny Priory; contact Jan/John on 01446 418514

Wear suitable clothing, preferably boots and carry waterproofs, food and drinks. Some degree of fitness is required and if you are in any doubt, then please contact the walk leader for advice.
