A SHAMELESS criminal who described himself as a “top bank robber” on his Facebook profile has been jailed for eight years after getting caught.

Daniel Jones, 34, of Cornerswell Road, Penarth, went on a five-day crime spree where he raided a bank, newsagent, burger bar and post office, and robbed a taxi driver.

Jones stole nearly £10,000 in the five raids - but was caught within hours by police.

A court heard his Facebook biography boasts he is a “top bank robber” and includes a knife emoji.

His crime spree began in February when he robbed a taxi driver in Grangetown, Cardiff, with a 12 inch knife and shouted: “Give me all your money or I will kill you.”

He then raided the nearby Lifestyle Express in Canton, Cardiff, of cash and cigarettes, before turning his attention to a Lloyds Bank where he threatened a cashier with a knife before shouting: “Give me the money. Give me the ******* money.”

Prosecutor Andrew Davies said: “He jabbed the knife towards a member of staff and grabbed notes from the till, leaving with about £1,500.
His fourth robbery was at McDonald’s in Leckwith, Cardiff, when he climbed over the counter with a knife.

Cardiff Crown Court heard he took £195 in notes and £560 in coins from the safe before climbing back over the counter and leaving.

And his final robbery was at a post office in Penarth, where fled with £7,000 cash.

Police later found Jones smoking crack cocaine, with £2,000 cash on him.

The court heard Jones had 41 convictions for 96 offences including previous robberies, theft, criminal damage, drunk and disorderly behaviour, GBH and possessing heroin.

He pleaded guilty to five counts of robbery and five counts of possessing a blade.
Kevin Seal, defending, told the court Jones’ relationship had broken down, causing him to relapse into drug use.

But judge Jeremy Jenkins told him: “I am quite satisfied that you are a dangerous offender.”

Jones was jailed for eight years and four months and must serve an extra three years on licence.
