A MAN from Penarth will cycle 2,000 miles with four colleagues during throughout June to raise money for charity.

Spencer Williams, 26, a trainee chartered accountant, has been chosen to take part on behalf of his firm PricewaterhouseCoopers along with four other riders in the challenge called Ride the Nation.

The event will connect all 30 PWC offices in the UK through a cycling relay and Mr Williams will be passing through Cardiff and Swansea on June 9.

All donations received for Ride the Nation will go to the charities the event will be supporting.

Those donations will be split 50/50 between each office’s’ chosen local charity and the PwC Foundation’s Race for £3 million.

The five charities supported by PwC Foundation’s Race for £3 million are The Alzheimer’s Society, Beyond Food Foundation, Wellbeing of Women, Groundwork and National Literacy Trust.

Mr Williams, who now lives and works in London, has been selected as a national rider, which means he will be cycling the full 2,000 miles to every office in the UK, Channel Islands and Northern Ireland and has a target of £2,000 to fundraise.

He said preparations are going well and that his love of cycling is helping him.

He said: “I am a very keen cyclist and the opportunity was there for five colleagues to form part of a national team. I will get to see the country and it is a once in a lifetime opportunity with the support of the company to do it. I already cycle into work every day and longer on weekends. I’ve also been doing a loop of Regent’s Park as part of my preparations.”

He has been training non-stop for the past six months including cycling the one-day classic: Paris-Roubaix which was 170km, of which 50km were over cobbles and the Carten 100, the Cardiff to Tenby cycling challenge.
