TV star and gang documentary presenter Ross Kemp has given his backing to a candidate for the General Election.

The former Eastenders star officially lent his support to Cardiff South and Penarth candidate Stephen Doughty at an event this week.

Mr Kemp was at an event at a boxing club in Llanrumney on Tuesday (May 30) with Mr Doughty followed by a talk at a church.

Mr Kemp urged everyone to get out and vote.

He said: “This election is a more important vote than last June’s referendum because it will be with us for five years. Stephen cares and has done things for the community.”

Mr Doughty said he is “proud” of the constituency for its volunteering spirit and sense of community.

The pair then took questions from the audience which gathered at the church. Topics ranged from dealing with knives, drugs, homelessness, health and education amongst other topics.

l The other candidates for Cardiff South and Penarth are Andrew Bevan for UKIP, Jebediah Hedges from the Pirate Party, Bill Rees for the Conservatives, Emma Sands for the Liberal Democrats, Anthony Slaughter for the Green Party and Ian Titherington for Plaid Cymru.
