SOUTH Wales Police have joined forces with an online safety campaign, urging people to protect their children on the web.
The 'Be a Switched on Parent' campaign - in conjunction with Get Safe Online, focuses on protecting children on the internet the same way that parents would in 'real-world' situations.
With social media and online gaming becoming a daily part of children's lives, the campaign looks to provide specific practical advice and support to parents on a range of topics from social media, through to security and new technology.
Parents are being asked to think about what their children are looking at, who they are talking to and how much time they spend online.
South Wales police & crime commissioner Alun Michael said: "In recent years we have forged a strong partnership with Get Safe Online who are recognised nationally for their work to tackle issues associated with online safety. The ‘Be a Switched on Parent’ campaign is of particular importance, as it aims to protect some of the most vulnerable within our communities.
"Through early intervention and prompt, positive action we can help parents to engage with their children around online activity, positively influence behaviour and help to protect them from associated risks, which is of increasing importance in a digital world."
