FICTION writers will be discussing their craft at a number of events as part of this year's Penarth Literature Festival.

The festival is being held over the weekend of July 7-10.

On the evening of Friday, July 7, authors Clare Donoghue, JM Gulvin and Jan Newton will be discussing the importance of place in crime fiction, with settings for their thrillers ranging from New Orleans to North Somerset, via mid-Wales.

Then at 2pm on Saturday, July 8, the popular romantic novelist Veronica Henry, author of the bestseller How to Find Love in a Bookshop will be discussing her latest book The Forever House with Griffin Books owner Mel Griffin.

Sunday afternoon’s programme features Barry-based publishing executive Miranda Emmerson who, in a change from promoting other people’s work, will be talking about her own debut novel Miss Treadway and the Field of Stars which is a charming vintage mystery set in London’s theatreland.

Finally at 2pm on Monday, July 10, the writer, broadcaster and classicist Natalie Haynes, well known to Radio 4 listeners, will be discussing her novel The Children of Jocasta, a retelling of the Oedipus myth from the perspective of its often overlooked female characters.
