A COMMUNITY picture was created during an open art studio trail which was held in the town last weekend.

One studio encouraged visitors to paint a small addition onto a canvas to form the community picture.

Over the course of the weekend, artist Jill Schoenmann encouraged people to add their contributions and it gradually took shape.

Organisers say Saturday was the busiest day for the trail with crowds of people could be seen walking around the town clutching their trail maps.

Some chose to try to cover all 15 studios involved in the event, others had picked just a few studios to see.

Visitors were treated to demonstrations in painting techniques, stained and fused glass, together with felting, jewellery and Celtic knotting

Angelina Hall from Glass By Design in Station Approach said: "So many visitors commented that whilst they have come to Penarth before, they had only ever been to see the pier and the seafront.

"Showing off what a terrific place Penarth is, and what the town has to offer was a priority when organising the trail and all agreed that this was a great success.

Artists talked about their work enthusiastically, and gladly answered questions on technique, advice and explaining their work.

Plenty of work was sold during the weekend and all twenty-one artists who took part are enthusiastic for the event to become a regular feature of the Penarth social calendar.

The last full weekend of June each year has been cited as the best time to run the event.

Any artist who would like to take part in June 2018 is encouraged to email sales@glassbydesign.co.uk or drop into the shop in Station Approach to register their interest.

"This is an all inclusive community event which is intended to grow and develop year on year," said Mrs Hall.
