MERCURY Theatre Wales are set to perform their new production, '35 TIMES', at the Penarth Pier Pavillion on Saturday, July 1.

The company are touring the show across South Wales throughout June and July.

The play represents writer Bethan Morgan's first foray into scriptwriting, having been inspired to tell the stories of women in South Wales who have endured domestic violence.

After a period of research and development where she met and interviewed survivors of domestic abuse in the South Wales valleys, Ms Morgan and her team presented their work at the National Assembly of Wales in May 2016.

Mercury Theatre Wales have assembled an all female cast to present these stories and raise awareness of the issue of domestic abuse.

Explaining her reasoning behind the play's title, Ms Morgan said: "Statistically, a woman will experience domestic abuse on average 35 times before reporting it. In my quest to bring this subject to the fore, I feel extremely honoured to have met so many brave survivors, to whom I am incredibly grateful for sharing their experiences with me. My hope is that 35 TIMES will highlight the support available and empower women to speak out."

The play opens at The Park & Dare Theatre in Treorchy on the 29th of June 2017 before touring to Penarth Pier Pavilion, St Dogmaels Memorial Hall in Pembrokeshire, Volcano Theatre Swansea and finishing at Chapter Arts Centre Cardiff from the 11th - 15th of July.
