LIFEBOAT crew training was interrupted on Tuesday night after reports of people on the causeway at Sully Island

Just after 7pm on June 27, just as crews were assembling for training at the Penarth station, they were launched to the incident.

Two people were helped across the causeway by members of Penarth Coastguard and the D class lifeboat carried out a search around the island to ensure no one else was in danger.

Once the call was completed, the crew undertook regular planned training.

All crew members undertook throw line refresher training and they received a VHF radio refresher from one of the crew members.

In addition we talked through the large number of shouts we have had in the last week, making sure they learn from incidents and look for patterns and trends.

A spokesman for Penarth RNLI said: "It was such a lot to get through, as well as our weekly boat checks.

"However this kind of intensive training ensures we are ready, 24/7 to respond to emergencies at sea."
