A Penarth RAF reservist joined colleagues from the three services in celebrating Armed Forces Day in Wales at the weekend.

Mechanic Jamie Scott is a member of Number 614 (County of Glamorgan) Squadron based in Cardiff.

The former Stanwell Comprehensive pupil volunteered to help his squadron at the celebration in Caerphilly where they were giving out information to potential recruits and engaging youngsters with games and challenges.

Jamie, who is a Leading Aircraftman, enjoyed the day thoroughly: "It was excellent to interact with the public and to explain how they could help and also to see how many people are actually interested in a career with the armed forces. It's great to see such enthusiasm still around."

In the RAF, the 25-year-old works in Motor Transport and a high point of his service has been his basic training. "This was 15 consecutive days of training at RAF Halton doing everything the regular would do". There recruits learn how to handle a weapon, deal with chemical and biological attacks and how to give battlefield first-aid.

"It was great to have an insight as to what life is like in the air force" he added.

With other RAF personnel Jamie joined colleagues from the Royal Navy and Army and thousands of people to celebrate Armed Forces Day in Wales at Caerphilly.

The day kicked off with a parade featuring RAF personnel from nearby MoD St Athan and local Air Cadets alongside soldiers from the Royal Welsh and a contingent from the Royal Navy.

Those in the parade formed up for a poignant Drumhead Service where the First Minister Carwyn Jones and Secretary of State for Wales Alun Cairns gave readings.

Last Post was sounded and Standards, including those of Royal Air Force Associations from across South Wales were dipped as a minute's silence was observed to remember those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
