LLANDOUGH Community Council has been highly commended for working for the benefit of its residents.

The council was presented with a certificate at the One Voice Wales innovative practice awards in Builth Wells on July 5.

Llandough Community Council manages a large allotments site, is the principal trustee for the village hall, provides a weekly transport service for older and disabled people wishing to access local supermarkets, maintains two pocket parks and a village green and organises the annual village fete.

In addition it supports a wide range of community engagement events throughout the year and works closely with its partners such as local schools, the local scouting and guide movement and various local organisations.

Cllr Dr Mo Misra, chairman of the council said: "I am delighted to receive the certificate as it recognises all the work that goes on behind the scenes to make Llandough such a wonderful place to live."

The community council has also embarked on a community engagement exercise to find out what the views of residents are on the current provision of local services and to identify priorities for the future.

Informed by the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s community mapping toolkit and support from its officers, the first element of the exercise will be to ask local residents to complete a survey form which has been distributed to all households and which can be completed in hand or on line.

The survey will be analysed by former Councillor Dr Bill Fear who is a highly experienced and qualified researcher and he has agreed to give up his time freely to provide the council with information that will be essential to assist in the management of the exercise.

All residents are asked to give priority to completing the survey which will enable the council to target its efforts on those things that are most important to the community.
