THIS week’s From the Archives feature focuses on Alexandra Park in the centre of the town.
This photograph of the fountain at Alexandra Park was taken more than a hundred years ago.
The park, which was the first public park to be created in the town, was developed between 1899 and 1902 from an open field
overlooking Penarth seafront.
It was named after the wife of King Edward VII who had newly succeeded to the throne.
The ornamental fish pond and fountain can still be seen today.
This postcard view is from the Noah’s Ark series dated 1916.
Many thanks to Andrew Coslett, administrator for Images of Bygone Penarth Facebook site for contributing the picture.
