STUDENTS at St Cyres School in Penarth are celebrating another record breaking year of A-level results.

Sixth form and college students across the UK found out how they did in their exams today (Thursday, August 17)

More than two thirds of the students who sat A-levels this year have got places at university.

In all, 20 per cent of grades at St Cyres were either A* or A, 66 per cent A*-C and 97 per cent A* to E.

One student, Moyassar, came from Syria via Saudi Arabia to study at St Cyres.

He achieved three As and has earned a place at Cardiff University where he plans to study medicine.

He said he is "very happy" with the results he achieved particularly having gone from a D to an A in one subject.

Matthew Jackson was celebrating his 18th birthday as he picked up his results.

He got an A*, two As and a B and was very pleased with his results saying he will be out celebrating tonight.

The top achievers at St Cyres included Felix Peterken 4 A*s, 1A, Evie Brown 2A*s, 2As, Liam Richards 2A*s, 1A, Jack Corsi 3As, 1B, Daisy Farrow 3As, 1B, Veerain Patel 3As, 1B and Jacob Reid 1A*, 2As.

A spokeswoman for the school said: "We are delighted and proud of this year's results. The results are similar to last year. "The students and teachers have a great work ethic."

The school's official twitter account tweeted: "Congratulations to all our students on your results today...the fruits of all your hard work!"

Paula Ham, Vale of Glamorgan Council director of learning and skills said: "There will be celebrations across the Vale today as sixth formers congratulate each other on their successes. 

"For students receiving their A-level results this is the culmination of years of hard work and they should be very proud of what they have achieved.

"While for those opening their AS results the finish line is now in sight. 

"This year’s results cement the Vale of Glamorgan’s reputation for outstanding educational standards. Teachers and support staff work tirelessly all year to give our young people the strongest possible platform for success and they too fully deserve to celebrate today."
