A CHARITY rugby match between a housing association team and a Welsh Charitables XV was held to raise funds for a Penarth dad with cancer.

The match was held on Friday, September 1 at Penarth RFC's ground just off. Lavernock Road.

The match which was attended by several hundred spectators ended in a 24-all draw and its objective was to help raise money for father-of-three Matt Burns, 40, from Penarth, whose wife Jo, works as a health and safety officer at Wales and West Housing’s (WWH) head office in Llanishen, Cardiff.

They have three children Noah, 10, Martha, six, and two-year-old Jude.

So far friends at WWH have raised around £2,000 to help the Burns family.

The money raised from the Friday’s event will be shared between the Burns family, the organisation’s current staff charity Age Cymru and the Welsh Charitables RFC Veterans’ chosen charity.
