THE fourth Vale of Glamorgan youth mayor has been elected for the upcoming year

Niclas Want, 18, from Ysgol Gyfun Bro Morgannwg was elected at the inauguration on Monday, October 16.

Young people across the Vale turned out to vote during the elections which took place from Monday, October 9 until Friday, October 13 during Local Democracy Week.

Barry Comprehensive student Daley Chapman, 16, was re-elected as this year’s deputy youth mayor.

On being voted as this year’s Youth Mayor, Niclas Want said: "It has been fantastic to see the high turnout, and young people getting engaged with the vote.

"I am excited to be working with the council and young people across the Vale in the next year."

Deputy youth mayor, Daley Chapman added: "I am happy to be re-elected and with the number of votes cast this year.

"I am looking forward to visiting young people across the Vale and listening to their views."

The aim of the election is to make young people more aware of their local council and encouraging them to have a say about their local communities and voting for a youth mayor who will be a voice for young people is seen as one way of doing this.

The announcement was made by cllr John Thomas, leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council and the deputy Vale mayor, cllr Leighton Rowlands.

Cllr Rowlands said: "The youth cabinet is a great opportunity for young people to learn more about how the council works and to act as a voice for other young people across the county.

"I am sure both Niclas and Daley will do a fantastic job and I wish them the best of luck."
