A NURSERY school has become the first in the Vale of Glamorgan to receive the National Quality Award of the Welsh Network of Healthy Schools Scheme.
Bringing together 14 years of work by staff, children and parents, Cogan Nursery School was assessed for the award in the summer of 2017.
Welsh Government assessors spent almost two days at the nursery, talking to staff, pupils and parents, and exploring the many and varied ways in which Cogan Nursery promotes health.
The nursery recently held a celebratory assembly, to mark their achievement and a plaque was presented to head teacher Pauline Rowland by Cllr Bob Penrose from the Vale of Glamorgan Council.
The nursery caters for around 86 children of three to four years of age.
The assessors commented that the general ethos of the nursery is outstanding, with good behaviour and mutual respect evident.
They also highlighted the weekly gymnastics club run by one of the teachers who is an experienced gymnastics coach, support for shy pupils through the Chatter Group, the nursery café which provides a different type of food each day with fruit and vegetables grown in the garden, the outside space and the school’s involvement in the Eco Schools Programme.
