MORE than 3000 attended this year's Christmas lights switch on event in Penarth.

The lights were turned on by BBC broadcaster and comedian Owen Money on Sunday (November 19) who was joined by fellow cast members of Jack and the Beanstalk which runs in the Paget Rooms from January 4-7.

The lights were switched on from the Bro Radio stage at 5pm with town mayor Cllr Ken Lloyd also in attendance.

Despite there being no parade through the town this year, Windsor Road saw large crowds gather from 3pm to enjoy the circus acts from Penarth Circus, rides provided by Vale Amusements, food and drink and face painting.

Visitors also got the chance to meet Father Christmas and several animals which were brought by local company Eggseeds.

Tabernacl provided the town with the nativity scene and free refreshments and Hamptons helped with hosting Santa and the main tree decorations

Stalls were provided by Supporters of Albert Primary (SOAP), The Windsor pub, Shop Penarth scheme and Penarth Town Council.

The Fire Service and RNLI were also in attendance as well as Rainbow Valley Productions which helped bring Mr Money to the event.

Town Clerk, Emma Boylan said: "Penarth Town Council is delighted that so many of the community came together to help launch this year’s Christmas festivities.

"Special thanks to all our partners who helped the event and who make Penarth such a great place to live, work and visit."
