MORE than 1000 daffodils were planted along Penarth's Railway Walk in just one hour as part of a community scheme.
On Saturday, November 18 members of the Penarth community, Vale of Glamorgan Council and representatives from Sustrans planted the bulbs in Sully Terrace along Railway Walk.
The event was organised by Railway Path Project Penarth and supported by Penarth Civic Society.
Brynawel Garden Centre donated the bulbs to the scheme.
Donations were also received from Wenvoe Garden Centre, Wasons and many members of the community.
A spokeswoman for the the project said: "We would like to thank all those businesses and individuals who donated bulbs, everyone who came on the day to plant and the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Parks department who continue to be very supportive of the project."
Work also began this month on planting native hedgerow saplings along the banks of the path. Hawthorn, Dogwood, Dog Rose and Hazel have been planted by the community in an area where rubbish has previously been cleared.
The trees were supplied by The Woodland Trust.
The group will be siting nest boxes built by Ysgol Y Deri at the end of January.
The spokeswoman added: "Thanks to R & N T Joinery, Penarth for supplying wood for this project."
The group hopes to run a birdwatching event to coincide with the RSPB’s birdwatch weekend alongside the nestbox siting.
