CLLR G. W. Barratt and Mrs Barratt paid an official visit to Llandough Hospital on Christmas morning and distributed gifts to Penarth residents who were hospitalised over Christmas.
However, several other people had the same idea and the chairman of the hospital board and two members of Parliament, together with members of the administration, medical and nursing staff, visited.
Matron, Miss Foden conducted her own special tour – visiting every patient in the hospital.
ON Sunday, December 17 the rector of Sully, the Rev Basil Jones, took a party of 48 choristers and accompanying musicians to give the annual carol concert on the wards of Sully Hospital.
It is an event that is always eagerly looked forward to and one which all patients and the staff thoroughly enjoy.
The full choir of Sully church went together with male members of the Tabernacle Church, in Penarth.
This year, a Penarth lady, Miss Eunice Tidball, had the honour of conducting the choir. She is, of course, a well known and talented musician.
Mr Cyril Hyde played the cello and other accompanists were Mr Garrett, Mr Dibble and Dr Walters (violinists), together with three friends of Miss Tidball, two of whom were violinists and one viola. Mrs Garrette played the piano.
ON Saturday evening, Penarth Motor Boat and Sailing Club, Penarth Dock, held their annual Christmas Pudding Dinner.
Dressed like flower people, members sampled the enormous Christmas pud which had been prepared for the occasion.
ON Christmas Eve there were a number of carol concerts taking place. Members of the RAFA Club were in fine voice, to say nothing of the Old Penarthians who, with the aid of specially prepared carol sheets, sang with gusto well into the night.
THE boys of Bryn-y-Don school, Dinas Powys, have had a very merry Christmas. Last week they met Father Christmas at their school party and later went carol singing with some of the masters and collected money in aid of Oxfam.
The last day of term, the boys invited their parents to a carol service at the school and entertained them to tea before going home for Christmas.
The selling price of the Penarth Times will be increased to 7d from next week – January 5.
