PENARTH Civic Society is looking for local people to volunteer on their committee to help keep the society alive.

'Civic Society saved from closure’ was the headline in the Penarth Times three years ago. The article motivated sufficient residents to join the society’s committee and to prevent its closure then, but there is now a further need for new members to come on board.

Anne Evans, who has served on the committee for the past 10 years, has appealed for more would-be supporters to offer their assistance and spoke about the important work that the society does in and around Penarth.

Ms Evans said: "The society has worked hard over the last few years in its stated aim of helping to make Penarth a better place to live and work in.

"We are pleased to be able to co-operate with the Vale council with regard to a number of initiatives, for example the beach wardens scheme.

"We are also pleased to announce that the Railway Path Project, which has worked hard to remove litter, plant daffodils and saplings and put up bird boxes, is now part of the society. And last week, the society has hosted an open meeting to consider the possibilities of a town museum.

"We can’t take these and other initiatives forward without a committee, and more people are needed to join us. Anyone with secretarial or legal skills would be particularly welcome, although all offers of help in maintaining and enhancing our town would be gladly received.

"We would be delighted to talk to anyone who might be interested."

The society can be contacted via their website, or you can email them directly at enquiries@penarthsociety.org.uk.
