A LOCAL MP has claimed that is “virtually impossible” to emerge from the Twyneyn into Britway Road, Dinas Powys, with safety; even if he should take the most elaborate precautions.

Mr Raymond Gower has written to the Secretary of State for Wales, Glamorgan County Council and Cardiff Rural District Council Road Safety Committee, calling for immediate action to alleviate the danger.

Mr Gower said that a number of local people, particularly residents of the Twyneyn, had called his attention to the “extreme danger” of the junction.

“I am well acquainted with this junction myself, and I can assure you that my constituents in no way exaggerate its danger,” he said.

“When I visited this site last weekend, I confirmed that it is virtually impossible for a motorist to emerge from the Twyneyn into Britway Road in safety even if he should take the most elaborate precautions.”

“I respectfully submit that this should not await a plan for widening Britway Road at some feature date, or any plan for the re-alignment of the verges of St Andrew’s Road.

“But quick and inexpensive action to remove a bulge of a front garden wall of a house on the St Andrew’s Road side of the junction could afford a great improvement.”

Mr Gower told the Secretary of State that the matter should be treated as “very urgen” and he asked that the County Council should be given any sanction and aid which may be required.”

THE Spring Fayre held by the Penarth Appeals Committee for the Danybryn Cheshire Home raised almost £100.
