A PENARTH woman is raffling off one of her paintings to raise funds for a cancer charity.

Artist Sheridan Ward has painted a picture of a winter landscape in memory of her friend Kate Oswin, who died from cancer at the age of 50 at the beginning of this year.

Ms Ward said she is auctioning off the painting to raise "as much money as possible" for Velindre Cancer Care, as staff looked after Ms Oswin.

She said: "Kate's family requested donations to Velindre, instead of flowers at Kate's funeral. The painting 'Winter Study' is the view on the way to the Walnut Tree in Abergavenny, when a group of friends went to celebrate her birthday in December, so it was fitting to use this image in memory of Kate.

"I went with her when she was going to Velindre for a few of her treatments and the staff were wonderful. I was always blown away by them and how good they were."

Ms Ward has been selling raffle tickets for the auction and has already raised more than £800 but is hoping to raise more for the centre.

The raffle itself will be taking place this Sunday (June 3) where Ms Ward will announce the winner of Winter Study.
