CHILDREN from local schools around Penarth have showcased their considerable musical talents at the 26th Annual Schools Concert Organised by the Rotary Club of Dinas Powis.

This year's Annual Schools Concert took place on Thursday, May 10 and involved more than 100 pupils. The event attracted a busy audience, which was treated to a varied programme of instrumental ensembles, creative dance, and choral music.

The concert featured choral groups from St. Andrews major Church in Wales Primary School, Fairfield Primary School, Albert Primary School and Dinas Powis Primary School, performing a variety of pieces including; Any dream will do, Believe, Hard knock Life and Tomorrow.

Other highlights included Ysgol Pen-y-Garth Creative dancing group who produced an acrobatic performance on the theme of Rivers, interpreting a river’s journey from its source to the sea. The group won the Cardiff and Vale Urdd competition in March and will be representing Cardiff and the Vale at the Urdd National Eisteddfod, Builth Wells.

Stanwell School Junior Orchestra performed Eye of the Tiger, the Main Theme from James Bond, Ed Sherran’s Perfect and I am the Doctor from Dr Who.

The concert ended on a high with a performance from the Stanwell School band: Jazz-Wise, who had the audience tapping their feet to arrangements of: Fast Break, Wood Choppers Ball and Mercy, Mercy, Mercy.

A spokesman from the Rotary Club of Dinas Powis said: "The concert really was fantastic and all the pulps involved performed beautifully so a huge congratulation to them all and staff members from the individual schools who helped the evening run so smoothly.

"The money raised from the concert will go towards the Rotary annual KidsOut day. KidsOut is run by Rotary Clubs in Britain with the aim of giving a day of fun to children who for various reasons would not otherwise have the opportunity of Having a day out.

"This year the Rotary Club of Dinas Powis will take group of children from Ysgol y Deri in Penarth for a day at the Oakwood Theme park in Pembrokeshire."
