PREPARATIONS are well underway for the annual Picnic Penarth event, returning again in the town for its fourth year.

Kicking off at 1pm on Saturday, June 9, the fun, food and festival atmosphere will last right up until 6pm on Sunday, June 10.

The event teams have listened to public feedback and the new event has been re-styled to provide more shelter, more seating, and more food outlets, in a bigger space and utilising the Italian Gardens in Penarth.

Last year, the event saw more than 1,000 visitors turn up and enjoy a variety of different foods.

This year there will once again be a variety of food vendors ranging from James Sommerin to Science Cream. Picnic-goers will also be able to enjoy a child friendly event focused on family fun.

Tom Shanklin, former Welsh International and Penarth resident said: "I can’t wait to see everyone enjoying the best Picnic yet. It’s a stunning setting, and the best place to the Volvo Ocean Race action."

Penarth Town Council have teamed up with event specialist Genero Experiences to work together on upcoming events in the town.

Genero Experiences will combine their expertise in international event styling and management, with those of working colleagues at the town council to provide an extra dimension for attendees of the year’s events.

Commenting on the partnership Pete Leckie MD of Genero Group said: "Genero’s commitment to the local community is one of our top priorities.

"I’ll be very proud to see our team delivering the usual Genero magic closer to home this summer."

Penarth Town Council leader Mike Cuddy said: "We have a deep-rooted responsibility to the Penarth community to provide the best possible event to them in the most cost-effective manner.

"I am very pleased to welcome Genero to work alongside our team to provide a new and exciting version of traditionally well-loved activities."

After Picnic Penarth there will be the Summer Festival on July 14 and 15 and the Downhill Derby on the Saturday afternoon.
