A NEW collection of greetings cards featuring images by Penarth photographer Nick Treharne are being snapped up by visitors to the National Museum in Cardiff, where they went on sale last week.

The black and white cards illustrate different aspects of Wales including city, country and coastal images.

The collection includes a stunning image of Penarth Pier, with a tight-rope walker in the foreground, which typifies Mr Treharne’s talent for creating highly engaging images from even the most familiar of settings.

Mr Treharne captures many of his images when he’s indulging in his passion for motorcycling, which helps him to find the people and locations that feature extensively in his work.

He said: “These cards show images from my ongoing project to document, through photography, a contemporary ‘Portrait of Wales’.

“I am delighted to see them on sale in the National Museum, and I truly hope people enjoy them as I much as I enjoyed taking the images.

“Photography is my absolute passion, and this collection has inspired me to spend more time exploring more aspects of Welsh life.”

Founder John Jackson said: “This is the first time Nick’s work has been made available in a greetings card format.

“Until now his work has only been available as prints for people looking to add examples of Nick’s photography to their collections.

“So this collection of greetings cards represents an exciting new venture for us, and I believe having them chosen to be stocked in such an iconic location is a true reflection of the quality of Nick’s work.”

Rhodri Welsh, retail manager at the National Museum Cardiff said: “This new range of greetings cards is welcome addition to our shop, and I know  they will be popular with visitors from around the world who will enjoy them as a reminder of their trips to Wales.

“Nick’s images are intriguing, they invite you to think about the subject and the context in which the photograph was taken.

“In that respect they are exceptional examples of contemporary photography, that also happen to be greetings cards, and this of course makes it a highly affordable way for people to enjoy Nick’s work.”

The full collection of greetings cards are available to purchase from the shop at National Museum Cardiff which has free entry and is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 5pm.
