South Wales Central AM Andrew RT Davies has congratulated a Penarth ice-cream parlour and coffee shop that has been officially named the best in Wales.
Specialising in pancakes and gelato ice-cream – The Crepe Escape on Glebe Street was named best dessert outlet at the Food Awards Wales 2018 – beating off competition from across Wales.
Mr Davies visited the café to meet with owner Alison Jones – and sample some of the gelato, sorbets and frozen yogurts – which he described as “top notch”.
The Crepe Escape – which also has a store in Cardiff Bay – also prides itself on its environmental credentials – having recently taken the decision to go plastic free.
Mr Davies said, “The food and drink industry plays a key role in the local economy in Penarth – and it is fantastic to see local businesses leading the way.
“The Crepe Escape not only serves up top notch pancakes and ice-cream – but it also has a welcoming atmosphere that customers enjoy.
“Alison and her team have worked exceptionally hard to make it a success – and they deserve all the plaudits that come with it.
“To be named dessert outlet of the year is no mean feat – and they can claim with authority to serve up the best puds in Wales!
“They are also leading the way by going plastic free – something I hope becomes mainstream in the hospitality industry. I’d like to wish The Crepe Escape all the best for the future and thank them for inviting me along.”
