STAR billing this week goes to Dave Howells’ Alliance team who recorded yet another win in this record breaking season.

This time it was a very close 2 shot victory over near neighbours Penarth. Dave Adams, Martin Dorrell, Hugh Morris and Lance Davies 18-12. Dave Brenton, Paul Parker, Keith Williams and Dave Lewis 23-15. Tommy Owen, Peter Collier, Tom Evans and Captain Howells 18-17. Brin Peregrine, Mike Fullbrook, Tim White and Mike Cuccinello 10-23

The only other Men’s match this week was that of the Second team who faced a Dinas Powys side which showed a number of changes from the one that had faced Penarth the previous week.

Despite those changes, Dinas proved the better side on the day, beating Windsor by 10 shots.

Captain Simon (aka Steve) Latham led from the front and along with Brin Peregrine, Alan Dudley and Mike Cuccinello secured a 24-12 rink victory.

Mike Matthews, Charles Burton, Clive Palfrey and Dave Howells also won with a score of 21-14. However two rinks went down; Tom Evans, Ian Mathias, John Hardess and Derek Davies 14-23 and finally Tommy Owen, Roger Ellis, Arty Woodcock and Dave Hales 10-30.

Sympathy for young Hales who was clearly exhausted by the extra length of his journey to the club.

The Ladies had a most enjoyable and successful evening at Mackintosh winning comfortably by 44 shots to 22.

The game was made even more enjoyable as they were serenaded throughout by a practising choir who rejoice in the name of “Only Menopause Aloud”. Rink scores were Ann Morrish, Bernice Roberts, Diane Roper and Moyra Owen 21-13. Angela Hudson, Mags Coughlan, Veronica Flitney and Di Thomas 23-9.

Sadly, the other match was a chastening experience in the Double Rink game. As always, Windsor fielded an inexperienced side in accordance with the spirit of this competition but many opposition sides are having to play some of their best bowlers because of a shortage of players. Such was the case with Barry Romilly who romped to victory by 54 shots to 16.
