THIS week's From the Archive shows an early morning shot of the tall ship, STS Lord Nelson passing Penarth Pier on her way to Cardiff dock in the 1990’s.

The STS Lord Nelson took two years to make and she was commissioned by the Jubilee Sailing Trust to be the ‘flagship’ for the Jubilee Sailing Trust’s mission to enable people with disabilities to be able to sail.

On October 17, 1986, the newly completed Lord Nelson made her way out of Southampton.

After the launch of Lord Nelson, the JST grew from strength to strength, and demand for berths on voyages began to outstrip supply.

Lord Nelson left Southampton on October 21, 2012 and on November 22 crossed the Equator and making JST history by sailing into the Southern Hemisphere for the very first time.

The Tall Jubilee Sailing Trust is a registered charity, dedicated to enabling people with disabilities to sail. Building of the ship was completed in 1986. Thank you to Andrew Coslett for supplying the photograph and the information.
