A project which gives vulnerable young homeless people a roof over their heads will be extended by a further six months.
An accommodation service, run by Vale of Glamorgan Council and charity Llamau, has offered supported accommodation for up to two homeless people aged 16 to 21 at a time since December last year.
The council’s cabinet has agreed to extend the pilot project by a further six months.
The project aims to prevent the need for homeless young people using “unsuitable temporary accommodation” such as bed and breakfasts, a council report says.
Extending the pilot would cost the council a further £65,964.
One of the young people supported by the scheme is now in her own housing association flat, while another continues to live at the project and could be in a position to start their own tenancy within the next three to four months, the report says.
