A DENTAL practice got together and held a spin-a-thon to help raise more than £650 to the neonatal department at the University Hospital of Wales.

Colleagues from Bupa Dental Care, in Hickman Road, Penarth, held a fun day and raffle for the department after the practice's dental nurse, Sarah Mckeever, gave birth to her twins 12 weeks early.

Practice manager Kirsty White said she wanted the practice to do something in support of Mrs Mckeever as her two twins Alfred and Olive were in the hospital.

Ms White did an eight hour non-stop spin-a-thon while her staff came to work in pyjamas, held a raffle and sold cakes - raising more than £650 for the neonatal department.

The 30-year-old said: "We wanted to raise as much as possible so needed a challenge! We also needed to organised something at short notice so it was something we came up with and organised within a week.

"It was a massive achievement. The last two hours were very hard and I cried but thank you to the patients who helped me keep going.

"We visited the neonatal department last week and donated the cheque and also a hamper. The ward team and my college Sarah were overwhelmed with it. They were so pleased with what we managed to do and Sarah was grateful of the support from her work team."
