THIS week’s From the Archives looks at an interesting advertisement for The Premier Restaurant and Temperance Hotel which was situated at the entrance to Windsor Arcade.

The Premier Restaurant along with the Grosvenor Cafe catered for large numbers of visitors to Penarth during holiday periods.

The restaurant and cafe was built in 1898 for the local entrepreneur Solomon Andrews and designed by the architect E. Webb.

The Windsor Arcade building is a grade II listed neo-Classical building, was designed by Edward Webb and dates to 1898.

The shopping arcade is described as one of Penarth’s most significant commercial buildings.

The arcade is one of 14 grade II listed buildings within Penarth.
